The Roscommon County Board of Commissioner’s met on Thursday, July 31, 2008 for a special meeting. Chairman Mead called the meeting to order at 10:00 A.M.
Roll Call: Nellist, Mead, Milburn.
Absent: Schneider, Souder.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Also Present: Various residents from the County. Names are available at County Clerk’s Office.
Pat Springfield and Rick Meeks from Houghton Lake Property Owner’s Association spoke on the lake levels of Higgins Lake. They asked Commissioner’s to request the Judge to lower lake level this winter, and to turn the responsibility over to the Drain
Commissioner and create a committee to manage dam and find the natural level of the lake.
Greg Cottingman spoke on behalf of Houghton Lake Lake Association. Bill McCaleb explained how St. Helen Dam operates.
Many other persons in the audience spoke along with Tom Rozich , from Fisheries MDNR, and Jeff Sliagy, DEQ, and Russ Minnerick, USGS.
Commissioner Mead responded that there is a committee working on the lake level of Higgins Lake. They are working on changing level of the lake for a 5 year plan in the near future.
