The Roscommon County Board of Commissioner’s met on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 for a regular meeting.  Chairman Nellist called the meeting to order at 10:00 A.M.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Roll Call:  Nellist, Melvin, Schneider, Milburn, Stephan.

            1.         Moved by Milburn, seconded by Schneider to approve the agenda and

                        add motion to add treasurer’s report.  On roll call:  Ayes:  Schneider,

                        Nellist, Milburn.  Nays:  Stephan, Melvin.  Motion carried.

 

            2.         Moved by Melvin, seconded by Milburn to approve Board of

                        Commissioner’s Meeting Minutes of January 7, and 14th, 2009.

                        On roll call:  Ayes:  Stephan, Schneider, Melvin, Nellist, Milburn.

                        Nays:  None.  Motion carried.

 

Public Comment – Arlene D’Felio, Gerrish Township spoke to commissioner’s

about letter she received from them regarding the white german shepherd.  Ed

Nellist agreed to look into matter and get back with her.

 

            3.         Moved by Milburn, seconded by Schneider to approve Class A

                        Bills in the amount of $854,203.40.  On roll call:  Ayes:  Nellist

                        Melvin, Schneider, Milburn, Stephan.  Nays:  None.  Motion

                        carried.

 

            4.         Moved by Schneider, seconded by Milburn to approve Claims and

                        Accounts in the amount of $123,314.70.  On roll call:  Ayes:  Melvin,

                        Nellist, Milburn, Schneider, Stephan.  Nays:  None.  Motion carried.

 

Controller’s Report – Cheryl reported that the roof of the Community Center in Houghton Lake which houses  Commission on Aging is complete.  She also

prepared a Stimulus Pkg. for the State of Michigan. 

 

 

            5.         Moved by Schneider, seconded by Milburn to approve Treasurer’s

                        report.  On roll call:  Ayes:  Schneider, Melvin, Nellist, Milburn,

                        Stephan.  Nays:  None.  Motion carried. 

 

Review of Monthly Reports – Gypsy Moth;  Sheriff’s Dept.;  Jail;

 

Visitor

Larry Haggerty, Markey Township Supervisor introduced himself to the Board.

 

            6.         Moved by Nellist, seconded by Stephan to appoint Larry Haggerty

                        as Township Representative to fill the vacancy created by Carl

                        Geiger for the completion of the term 2008 through 2010 for the

                        Roscommon County Transportation Authority Board of Directors.

                        On roll call:  Ayes:  Milburn, Stephan, Schneider, Melvin, Nellist.

                        Nays:  None.  Motion carried.

 

            7.         Moved by Stephan, seconded by Schneider to appoint Craig

                        Cotterman to the Roscommon County Recycling Committee.

                        This appointment is due to the resignation of Fred Chidester.

                        The term of this office is held until the appointee resigns.  On

                        roll call:  Ayes:  Melvin, Nellist, Schneider, Milburn, Stephan.

                        Nays:  None.  Motion carried.

 

            8.         Moved by Stephan, seconded by Melvin to approve sending

                        Letter of Support to Lyon Township officials for applying for

                        the LWCF Grant to enhance the Lyon Township Park 27 Complex.

                        On roll call:  Ayes:  Schneider, Melvin, Nellist, Milburn, Stephan.

                        Nays:  None.  Motion carried.

 

Committee Reports

Stephan –    Attended MAC Conference in Lansing, MI on February 9 and 10.

Milburn –    Attended MAC Conference in Lansing, MI on February 9 and 10.

                    Highly recommended each Department attend next year if at all

                    possible.

Melvin –     Attended Airport Meeting and Fran Staley’s retirement party.  Also

                    attended Veteran’s Affairs Meeting.  Inspected Higgins Lake Dam

                    and took pictures.  Current level a 100th of an inch below winter

                    level.

Schneider – Attended Airport Meeting.  Lights and windows installed. Budget

                    and Finance preliminary copy.  Detention center meeting in March.

                    St. Helen Dam 2.4 inches over winter level.

Nellist -       Attended CCAB meeting with Dewey Barber;  Attended Fundraiser

                    for Poindexter, and Fran Staley’s retirement party.  Agenda meetings

                    held on Fridays before meetings.

 

Public Comment – Craig Cotterman talked about odd looking plant growing

                               in Denton Township.  Larry Mead asked if Ed Nellist had

                               a meeting with the Attorney.

 

            9.         Moved by Nellist, seconded by Milburn to adjourn meeting.  On

                        roll call:  Ayes:  Melvin, Nellist, Schneider, Milburn, Stephan.

                        Nays:  None.  Motion carried.
