Duties

The duties of the Clerk are prescribed by state statute and include:

  • Clerk of the Board of Commissioners
  • Clerk of the County Election Canvassers
  • Clerk of the Court
  • Member of the County Plat Board
  • Files Assumed Name and Co-partnership Certificates
  • Keeper of the Circuit Court Seal
  • Register of Vital Statistics

Fees are established by law and turned over to the general fund.

Marriage License - There is a 3-Day waiting period for a Marriage license.

One applicant must be a resident of this county.  Both applicants must be 18 years of age or 16 with parental consent.  If you have been married before, documentation must be provided on how the marriage has been dissolved.  License is good for 33 days from application date.  License fee is $20.00.  Waiting period can be waived with a $50.00 fee.

In Person: Driver's License, Social Security number & Birth certificates are required for the application. Both parties do not need to be present to apply, but they must bring info for the absent party.

Online: Click the link below to start the application online.  Driver's license, Social security number & Birth certificates are required for the application.  Note your file number or print the online application.  The wait period will start once your documents have been verified at the Clerk's Office.

Out of State: In Person or Online application process is the same as above.  You must be married in the county you applied.  License Fee is $20.00 plus an additional $10.00 for non-residents.

Marriage License Return: You must return the completed license to the Clerk's Office for recording within 10 days of the ceremony.  You may purchase certified copies upon recording.

CPL Process - For New and Renewal Applications 

(2022-Concealed-Pistol-License-Application (roscommoncounty.net) 

New: You must go to your local County Clerk's office to apply for a new CPL.  You will need to bring your valid driver's license & training certificate.  The application fee is $100.00 and payable to the Roscommon County Clerk.  Fingerprints are obtained at the Sheriff's Department either Wednesday or Friday from 1:00p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Fingerprinting fee is $15.00 payable at the Sheriff's Department.  For fingerprinting, you will need to present the application receipt given to you from the clerk's office.  This process can take up to 45 days after fingerprinting.

RenewalThe completed application may be submitted in person at the Clerk's office, through the CPL renewal website at www.michigan.gov/cplrenewal or by first-class mail to the MSP, not more than 6 months before, nor one year after the expiration of your current CPL.  The renewal application fee is $115.00 payable online or at the Clerk's office.  If renewing in person, you must bring your valid driver's license and current CPL card.  The renewal process can take up to 30 days.
